Maine’s mile high Mount Katahdin provides the backdrop for the Maine’s most challenging stretch of class V whitewater rafting trip. In the first two miles the Penobscot River rushes through the spectacular Ripogenus Gorge. On this section whitewater rapids like “Exterminator”, and “Fist of God” live up to their names. The “Crib Works” rapid is solid class V whitewater. This stretch of white water is the most challenging commercially rafted river in New England. We stop at the Big Eddy to pick up our younger rafters. From here to the take out, the Penobscot River flows through Maine’s Baxter State Park. The next 14 miles of the Penobscot River alternates between class III + and IV whitewater. Highlights of the day include the 12 foot high water fall rapid “Nesowadnehunk Falls”, waterslide and a sizzling steak and chicken barbeque. Wildlife is abundant and sightings of moose and eagles are not uncommon. A Thrilling Maine Whitewater Adventure!

DIRECTIONS: Take I-95 to the Medway exit (Exit 244). Turn onto Rt. 157 West. Follow Rte. 157 for 8 miles to Millinocket. Turn right at the old Stearns High School (big brick building on your right) onto Katahdin Ave. Bare Left onto Bates Ave (following the signs to Baxter State Park). Bates Ave turns into Millinocket Lake Road. We are located on the right, as you leave Millinocket, just after the Radio Station WZYY. You will see a Wilderness Edge Campground sign with a Maine Rafting Expeditions sign below it on the right. If arriving at night both signs are lite up. If you see a sign for the Timber Cursers Snowmobile club on your right you just missed it.
From Southern and Northern points: Take I-95 to exit 244 (Medway/Millinocket) Follow instructions above.
From Eastern points: Cross in from Canada via the Calais or Houlton border crossings. If you cross at Houlton follow the above instructions. If you cross at Calais, follow Rt. 9 to Bangor and then follow the instructions above.
From Western points: From Maine’s western mountains, take Rt. 2 to Bangor and then I-95 to exit 244 (Medway/Millinocket) and follow the instructions above.
