Questions

How often do trips run?

We run trips on the Kennebec River seven days a week mid June through mid September. There are certain days during the week in early and late season that we may not have trips scheduled. We will schedule a trip for at least 6 persons. Plan your trip as far in advance as possible and this will give you more options for trip dates if you have a group since most of our popular dates book well in advance.

Do I have to know how paddle a kayak to raft or funyak in Maine?

No experience is required. We will teach you everything you need to know.

What should we bring?

You need to bring shorts, swim suit, fleece or under armour, t-shirt, foot protection (old sneakers, beach shoes or sport sandals), any medication, and a dry set of clothes for your ride home. Everything that you wear will may get wet so plan accordingly. Please do not bring valuable items (i.e. expensive clothes or shoes, jewelry, non-waterproof cameras or other items) on the raft. Under a wetsuit you will wear swimwear or insulated synthetic winter underwear (No COTTON) on cold spring days. On cold days wear wetsuit booties for extra warmth.

Can I rent a wetsuit or paddle jacket?

Yes we rent wetsuits, booties, and river shoes at all locations. The can be rented the day of the trip or pre book and receive a discount.

What type of meals are serve?

We serve a riverside picnic deli style lunch.

How many people and boats go on a funyak trip?

We offer one and two person funyaks, rafts take as few as 4 people and as many as 10. Trips are up to 40 people.

What if weather is bad?

Trips run rain or shine. You are going to get wet.  In twenty plus years of rafting we have only cancel one rafting trip. That was when Hurricane Irene directly hit the Deerfield River! In the event we have to cancel a trip we will issue you a trip credit or rain check for a future trip.

Can we request a guide?

Yes we will make every effort to schedule guides you have enjoyed in the past.

Is it appropriate to tip a guide after the trip?

Yes guides work very hard to insure you have a safe and fun river experience. If you feel your guide has done has made your trip and memorable experience, a tip is a very nice way to show your appreciation.

Can we still raft or kayak  if we have children (under 7 years of age)

Yes we have several full and ½ day trip options for children under the age of seven.  These include raft float trips, and inflatable kayaking options on class 2-3 rivers. We also offer rowing frame trips and split trip options on class III rivers and above. See our family rafting trips page and our row frame trip options.

Do I need a fishing license to fish?

Yes any one over the age of 15 is required to have a fishing license in Maine. They can be purchased at most local stores. The fishing is always good but May tends to be the best time for fishing.
