The Middle Kennebec River

Just below the gorge we start our Middle River trip. This exciting eight mile river trip has plenty of whitewater and is perfect for folks with younger children or those looking for a intermediate level rafting trip!  There are several fun rapids through out the day including “Dory Hole” “Phil’s Cannon” and “Stand Up Rips".    After a sizzling riverside steak and chicken barbeque we are back on the river for the afternoon.  The float out provides plenty of opportunities to try your hand at swimming a whitewater rapid. A fun for the whole family river.

Afternoon Lower Kennebec River raft trip: The seven mile stretch of the Lower Kennebec River is a fun river trip. With fun white water rapids and steady current this classic Maine rafting trip flows through the Kennebec River Valley. Leaving daily at 1:30. You can choose from a guided raft trip or enjoy captaining your own raft. You can also enjoy this river trip in a funyak / inflatable kayak. These boats are fun and easy to paddle. Moxie Outdoor Adventures provides all equipment including Funyaks or a raft, life jackets, paddles and shuttles. Guides and snacks provided on guided trips. 1:30 check-in $55.00 p.p.

Itinerary


Middle Kennebec River - Check in starts - 9:30 AM at Lake Moxie Camps, The Forks Maine 04985


9:30- Once all guests have arrived, your group will be given an orientation by our trip leader in the meeting area. The trip leader will go over the days itinerary and make a recomendation for the days river wear. Wetsuits may be rented at this time. Next is our “saftey talk”, safety techniques and helpful hints are the main topics to be discussed. After the "safety talk" we will suit you up with your pfds (personal flotation devices) give you a paddle and helmet and it is off to the river. A barbeque lunch of your choice of chicken, steak, or veggie burger along with “Moxie" Baked Beans, home made pasta salad, dessert, and juice or ice water will be served.

11:15PM - Once the day trip gets ready to hit the Kennebec River gorge you will backtrack with the bus driver to Carry Brook where you will watch the rafts coming down the gorge before they pull over and pick you up. You will enjoy 8 miles of class II and III whitewater alonog with the riverside barbeque lunch.

3:00 -3:30 - Takeout at The Forks “Ball Field” our shuttle bus will be waiting when we arrive. After the gear is loaded we'll board the bus for a 10 minute ride back to camp.

4:00 PM - We arrive back in camp. Enjoy a cold beer or refreshment while you view your photos or video of the trip. You may purchase a CD or DVD video full of great shots of your raft riding the rapids of the fabulous Kennebec River of Maine

From Points South:
I-95 North to Exit 133 in Fairfield, Maine. Follow Rte 201 North 65 miles to The Forks. Pass through Skowhegan and then Bingham (23 miles to The Forks). Once you reach The Forks look for our signs. The first one you will see is our office sign continue past for seven miles you will see our blue sign and the bridge crossing the Kennebec River. Take the right BEFORE THE BRIDGE turn onto the Moxie Road. DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE follow the Moxie road for 5 miles it will end at Lake Moxie look for the second blue sign. Turn right onto the dirt road go 2/10ths of a mile we you will see us on the left.

Take I-95 south to Exit 157 in Newport. Take Rte 2 West to Skowhegan. In Skowhegan take Rte 201 North. Pass through Skowhegan and then Bingham (23 miles to The Forks). What to Bring

What you should know about your rafting trip!

 

•This is important for your enjoyment on all our river adventures
•Start with a bathing suit and add on: fleece, wool or synthetic top, socks, (NO COTTON, it gets wet and it gets cold) a wind breaker or paddling jacket, hat and shoes that will stay on such as sneakers, secure sandals.
•Bring sunscreen, sun hat, you will be on the river for several hours.
•Your trip includes lunch, let us know if you have any special needs or allergies.
•Guides have a dry bag if you need special medication or food with you.
•If you wear wear glasses something to hold them on. We sell eye glass straps.
•Wet suits are available for rent the morning of your trip: $20 full wetsuit, including booties, $8 Paddle Jacket.
•You will get wet!
•We will provide you with guides, paddles, type V life jackets, helmets,
•We use state of the art self bailing rafts
•After a safety talk, we shuttle by bus to the river.
•An average river trip is 3 to 4 hours on the river. Some longer some shorter.
•Photographers or Videographers will be available along the river to catch your most exciting moments.
•After your trip your guides will conduct a slide or video show and you can order prints and videos at that time.
•All participants are required to sigh a liability release form.

 

You should bring the following:

     Change of clothes, including dry footwear and towel

     River shoes sneakers or securely fastening sandals are fine

     Bathing suit, or shorts you can get wet

     Windbreaker Wool sweater, socks, hat in spring and fall

     Sunscreen, bug spray and camera
